
About Us
C.A.P.T. PAL Preschool is an early childhood program that stresses the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child. We have been located at the United Parish of Carver in Carver, Massachusetts for 35 years.
Daily Activities include a free-choice period, a snack, followed by a structured session that includes music, storytelling, learning games, art, drama, and physical exercise.
Staff
We have a one to six teacher to children ratio. The staff has an extensive background of early childhood education and experience, and is licensed by the MA Dept. of Early Education and Care.
Staff
Elaine Raymond, Director
Elaine Raymond is the Director of CAPT PAL Preschool. She has a Bachelor’s degree plus Masters credits in Education with specialties in music and early childhood education. She has Massachusetts Department of Education Teacher’s certification and Director II Certification from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. Elaine has been on staff at the preschool for over 27 years
“Being with young children and watching their smiles, their curiosity, their growth and progress are very rewarding parts of my job. I also enjoy the relationships we have with the families and it is particularly gratifying to see children who came to CAPT PAL themselves now sending their own children. My staff and I work diligently to provide each and every one of our preschoolers with a meaningful and enjoyable first school experience.”
Elaine and her husband, Doug, have two grown children and two grandchildren. In their spare time, they like to travel, garden, attend the theater and concerts, and spend time with their family. Elaine also likes to read, play the piano and flute, and bike ride.
Dorothy (Dottie) McCarthy, Lead Teacher
Dottie McCarthy is the Lead Teacher at CAPT PAL Preschool. She has a Masters Degree in Education and Massachusetts Department of Education teacher certification in grade levels N-3 as well as Lead Teacher certification from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
“I enjoy my job as Lead Teacher at CAPT PAL Preschool. I feel very lucky to come to work each day doing something I love. Preschool is a time of tremendous growth, and that is why I find teaching this age so rewarding. We have a dedicated and wonderful staff at CAPT PAL and a long history of excellence in the town. I love the fact that our school has been around long enough to see children of alumni pass through the doors.”
Dottie and her husband, Christopher, have three daughters and live in Carver. When she is not in the classroom, Dottie loves being outside. She enjoys gardening, skiing, and going to the beach with her family.
Michelle LaRosa, Teacher
Michelle LaRosa is a teacher at CAPT PAL Preschool She has an extensive background in early childhood education. Michelle worked for many years in a large daycare/preschool setting before joining the staff at CAPT PAL. Michelle has a degree in early childhood education and certification as a Lead Teacher/Director with the Massachusetts Dept. of Early Education and Care.
Michelle enjoys planning activities and lessons that get the children in her classes excited about learning. Seeing the children happily involved in stories, in journaling, in music and movement, in science and art projects, and in interacting with each other is very rewarding to her as a teacher.
Michelle and her husband, Joe, live in Carver with their two daughters. As a family, they like to go on vacations, be involved in their church together, and do gardening and craft projects.
Kathleen Walker, Teacher/Assistant Teacher
Kathleen is an assistant teacher at CAPT PAL Preschool. She has an Associates degree in Business and is nearing completion on her Associates degree in Early Childhood Education.
“Working at CAPT PAL is such a joy to me. I love spending time with all the children in both learning and play. Creating a special bond with the children and watching them grow and become more confident throughout the year is what I love best.”
Kathleen and her husband, David, live in Carver with their two sons. As a family, they enjoy sports, skiing, and spending time together.
Lynn Stas, Assistant Teacher
“I am an assistant teacher at CAPT PAL Preschool and the mother of a CAPT PAL alumnus! I enjoy the look of joy on the children’s faces when they have accomplished something they’ve been working on or when they’ve made a new friend.”
Lynn and her husband, Frank, and their son live in Carver. When she is not at the Preschool, Lynn is busy raising guide puppies for the blind and teaching classes to other puppy raisers. She also enjoys knitting and doing crafts.
